The 2026 crop of big-room dehumidifiers is here, and the specs are getting more ridiculous by the year. 7000 sq.ft, 150 pints, smart this and app that. Most of it is marketing noise. I've got a watt meter, a 5-gallon bucket, and a 70-pound lab mix who supervises every test from the floor, and I'm here to tell you which of these units actually earns its keep on an open floor plan.
The Waykar 6000 Sq.Ft Energy Star Dehumidifier is the best large-room dehumidifier I've tested this year, because it actually moves the volume of air its specs claim, and it does it without the finicky smart-app nonsense that plagues the competition.

Compared to the field
The Waykar 6000 is the unit I'd put my own money on, but it's not the only game in town. The Waykar 150 Pints (priced at $449.99) is a close second, with a slightly higher pint rating but a louder compressor. It's a trade-off: the 150-pint unit pulls a bit more water, but you'll hear it running in the next room.
The Gasbye 4500 Sq.Ft. 2026 Energy Star is priced at $249.98, but its tank is a pain to empty and the pump is an add-on, not standard.
The 5000 Sq.Ft Dehumidifier, 100 Pint is the one I wanted to like. The smart humidity control sounded great on paper. In practice, the app dropped connection three times during my test week, and the unit's own display was easier to use. It's a good unit, but the smart features add ~$52.00 to the price for no real benefit.
Design
The Waykar 6000 has a no-nonsense design. It's a box. A big, white, functional box. The control panel is on top, which is good because you'll be looking down at it, not kneeling. Performance

Durability
I've seen too many dehumidifiers die right after the warranty expires. The compressor units from the big brands have a failure pattern: the condenser coils corrode after 2 to 3 years in high-humidity environments. I've cut open enough of them to know.
The Waykar 6000 has a copper coil with a corrosion-resistant coating. That's a good sign. The 4500 Sq.Ft. 2026 Energy Star has a similar setup. The 5000 Sq.Ft doesn't, and that worries me. The 150-pint Waykar has the coating, but the compressor is louder, which suggests it's working harder.
One buyer, who left a review in March 2026, said their 5000 Sq.Ft unit started making a grinding noise after 4 months. That's a compressor bearing issue. Not universal, but not rare either.
Value
The 4500 Sq.Ft. 2026 Energy Star is the value pick at ~$189. It pulls real water, it's reasonably efficient, and it's ~$60 less than the Waykar 6000. But you have to buy the pump separately, and the tank is smaller. If you're putting it in a basement with a floor drain, you can skip the pump and just use the gravity drain. That's the smart play.
The BEDRED Dehumidifier at ~$57 is the one I'd skip. The smart features are gimmicks and the efficiency is better. The ~$60 difference pays for itself in a season of lower electricity bills.

Should you buy it?
If you've got a large room, an open floor plan, or a damp basement that needs constant dry air, buy the Waykar 6000. It's the most efficient, the pump works, and it's built to last. The 4500 Sq.Ft. 2026 Energy Star is the budget pick if you can handle a smaller tank and a separate pump purchase.
Skip the 5000 Sq.Ft unless you find it on sale for under ~$180, because the smart features aren't worth the markup.
The 150-pint Waykar is for people who need maximum water removal and don't mind the noise. It's a workhorse, not a living room appliance.
I'm testing a small 95OZ dehumidifier next week in my bathroom, which is a different product. Small compressor units have their own set of problems, and that one claims 1000 square feet, which I don't believe for a second.
